The Pizzarelli Boys: Sunday At Pete's
Tredici standard ed una composizione originale per un percorso affettato, che nella migliore delle soluzioni guarda - senza avvicinarsi - al modello reinhardtiano, ma il paragone con il modello di riferimento è a dir poco impietoso.
Quando la musica non rasenta il kitsch, i quattro musicisti si muovono senza infamia e senza lode in un territorio impervio quale lo swing chitarristico degli anni ’30. Con l’aggravante che a condurre il gioco non è la personalità più eminente (Bucky), depositario di longeve esperienze in tal senso.
Eppure incredibilmente è il figlio John a condurre le danze e portarle verso territori anonimi, quando va bene, un po’ pacchiani quando va male. Una riunione di famiglia in pompa magna per interpretare in maniera solare e tutto sommato gioiosa il jazz tradizionale.
Una domanda sorge spontanea: perché esporsi ed esporre il glorioso padre ad una prova insipida come questa? Non era forse meglio per la famiglia riunirsi in cantina, per suonare quello che più gli piace ? Bellissima in compenso la fotografia di copertina.
