Amina Figarova: Sketches

Tredici brani originali composti da Amina Figarova formano Sketches, il nuovo album della pianista dell'Azerbaijan e residente in Olanda. Un repertorio - nato attraverso i viaggi compiuti con la sua "famiglia musicale," ovvero il sestetto con il quale è poi entrata in uno studio di Amsterdam per registrare questo lavoro - composto da brani che si portano dentro una buona varietà stilistica e una cantabilità che rende scorrevoli gli 80 minuti di durata del CD.

La Figarova - impostazione classica e tocco squisito - realizza figure di lucente fluidità melodica ("Four Steps to...," "Caribou Crossing") e si distingue per la semplicità con la quale imprime carattere ai suoi momenti solisti. Spetta al tenorista Marc Mommaas e al trombettista Ernie Hammes indirizzare la musica verso i territori prossimi al bop, in una band sorretta da una sezione ritmica puntuale e solida, che però non influisce molto sul risultato finale. Mentre è determinate, per quel che concerne l'elemento nostalgico e sentimentale dell'intera vicenda, l'apporto del flautista Bart Platteau, compagno di Amina anche nella vita.

Sketches si rivela un lavoro capace di tenere buona compagnia all'ascoltatore in cerca di momenti rilassanti, anche se nell'insieme qualche accelerazione in più non avrebbe guastato.
