Another of those "found" albums is the highlight of this episode. In 2006 master pianist Ran Blake and guitarist Dave "Knife" Fabris were performing at The Bimhuis in Amsterdam. After the gig the club gave them a recording of their performance, and as often happens, that disappeared. It finally emerged during the pandemic when Fabris found it. Live In Amsterdam 2006 is now available and another addition to the Ran Blake legend. Dave Fabris got his name "Knife" because he once played his guitar with a knife.) Two veterans of the free jazz world have albums with new bands—saxophonist Tim Berne with guitarist Gregg Belisle-Chi and drummer Tom Rainey, and pianist Satoko Fujii with "Gen," her first recording with a string ensemble. Swiss drummer Clemens Kuratle continueswith his band Ydivide on a second album for Intakt Records. You'll also hear more from some of my favourite albums of '24—Old Mountain, Fujii & Natsuki Tamura, David Leon, Peter Evans, William Parker & Heart Trio, Ingebright Haker Flaten & Thumbscrew.
