Gábor Gadó Quartet: Psyché

Gábor Gadó è forse il chitarrista jazz più noto ed attivo sulla scena ungherese. Il suo stile strumentale, prossimo ai modelli consolidati ma al tempo stesso atipico ed originale, diventa oltremodo interessante quando sviluppa trame accordali. In questo album troviamo il chitarrista alla testa di un organico formato da suoi compatrioti, e da musicisti francesi. Il nostro vanta infatti una lunga consuetudine con il jazz d'oltralpe, da cui - ci pare - ha assimilato un certo gusto per la melodia, che permane anche nei momenti più sinceramente liberi. Di questo, abbiamo avuto bellissime prove durante il MOL jazz festival che si è tenuto lo scorso settembre a Budapest [per leggerne la recensione clicca qui].

Psyché risale invece ad un paio di anni fa (è stato registrato nell'agosto 2004). Gli elementi di cui sopra appaiono ancora in fase embrionale e non completamente sviluppati. Ci troviamo di fronte, cioè, ad un album nel quale c'è una sorta di netta separazione tra i momenti più schiettamente melodici e quelli nei quali la ricerca strumentale ricopre un ruolo fondamentale. La capacità di far convivere sotto lo stesso tetto queste due fasi appare più come un traguardo da conquistare che come un elemento fondamentale della poetica del chitarrista. E, come sempre accade quando un musicista compie una ricerca, ci sono numerosi elementi di pregio ma non tutto è di ottima fattura.

Conoscendo i progressi fatti negli ultimi due anni dal chitarrista, mai come in questo caso la locuzione “album di transizione” ci appare dunque appropriata.
