Lee Konitz - Ohad Talmor Big Band: Portology
Una intesa umana ed artistica più che decennale tra i due artisti, che sembra aver dato nuova linfa vitale al magnifico contraltista di Chicago, oggi giovane ottantenne. Una piacevole sorpresa è costituita dall’eccellente cifra artistica della portoghese Orchestra Jazz De Matosinhos, che si destreggia con piglio autorevole tra un percorso compositivo già di per sé adamantino, articolato per lo più in forma di suite.
Vecchie e nuove, affascinanti composizioni konitziane e del suo empatico sodale vanno a costituire un multicolore mosaico sonoro, fatto di swing, free, jazz contemporaneo e perfino diradate perle di godereccio funk.
In bell’evidenza tutto il ricco, preciso, dinamico armamentario fiatistico ed anche la chitarra dell’ensemble sopra citato, destinato ad imporsi quale uno delle migliori realtà orchestrali del panorama europeo. Una preziosa scoperta da parte del duo Konitz/Ohad Talmor, che aveva già avuto modo di saggiarne tutta la duttilità nel corso di un tour lusitano di qualche anno fa.
È incredibile, ma rimane una vera e propria goduria sentir giganteggiare l’ottantenne Konitz con una autorevolezza ed una soavità interpretativa davvero impressionanti. Un solista sempre pronto a depistare i compagni di viaggio con deviazioni tematiche, per aleggiare sopra le note come una forza divina senza peso e senza tempo.
Una prova stratosferica la sua, che rende il disco impedibile per quanti (e siamo in molti) amano davvero Konitz, la sua storia e anche il suo glorioso presente.
