Sex Mob: Plays Fellini
La risposta è nelle note di copertina. Racconta Steven Bernstein che l'idea dell'omaggio gli ronzava in testa da un bel pezzo. Ma suona qua e partecipa là, si è arrivati al dunque sette anni dopo l'ultima fatica della band: Sexotica, uscito nel 2006. Da allora un live (con John Medeski, pubblicato dalla Thirsty Ear), decine di esibizioni, un profluvio di comparsate per i fantastici quattro, ma nessun altro CD. Almeno fino alla qui presente, coloratissima, pubblicazione, che interrompe il digiuno piazzandosi nel solco delle precedenti.
Il mix è quello di sempre: impatto, energia, spirito goliardico e dissacratore, sana e sfacciata voglia di divertire e di divertirsi. Insomma, i Sex Mob come abbiamo imparato a conoscerli e ad apprezzarli: sempre e comunque fedeli alla linea. Con in più il fenomenale canovaccio delle musiche di Nino Rota, rubacchiate qua e là ai capolavori felliniani: "La strada," "Amarcord," "La dolce vita," "I vitelloni". Temi e colonne sonore che provocano un gradevole effetto jukebox, con quel tanto di straniamento che basta per evitare la buccia di banana dell'ovvio o, peggio ancora, del patinato rispettoso (leggi Bosso e Pieranunzi).
Che dite? Prevedibili? Forse un tantino. Ma a Steven Bernstein e compagni si perdona tutto. Persino quel "Cinema, Circus and Spaghetti" scelto come sottotitolo.
Certo, dal vivo... (vedere qui sotto, prego).
