Michael Musillami, Peter Madsen: Pictures

Facciamo anzitutto un po' d'ordine: diciannove sono i brani complessivi di questo album; i dispari, tutti molto brevi (massimo 1'41"), sono altrettante libere improvvisazioni (nello specifico Promenades), sorta di intercapedini (nonché di prologo ed epilogo per quanto concerne le tracce 1 e 19) fra i brani pari, tutti intestati a un musicista specifico, pianisti (autore Peter Madsen) e chitarristi (autore Michael Musillami, ma confessiamo di non aver mai sentito nominare Robert Paris, né di averne trovato traccia sul web, almeno come chitarrista), alternati.

Geometrie pressoché perfette, quindi, che scandiscono il lavoro dei due performers (incisione in studio, maggio 2019) lungo questi cinquantasei minuti di musica, non impedendo agli stessi di instillarci in maniera più o meno equivalente apprezzamento ma anche un periodico senso di stanchezza, di tedio, perché il dialogare fitto tra i due strumenti (rari i momenti solitari) batte strade fin troppo omogenee, carenti di dinamiche, con lo spettro timbrico esplorato in maniera a sua volta troppo univoca, quasi monolitica.

Questo non c'impedisce, come si diceva, di apprezzare l'ottimo interplay fra i due musicisti, frutto di sicura conoscenza reciproca quanto della capacità (leggi, anzitutto, volontà) di ascoltarsi e rispondersi. Elencare in questo senso gli episodi che possono esserci apparsi più significativi si rivelerebbe operazione abbastanza sterile. Diciamo solo che attribuiremmo più meriti a Madsen che a Musillami, la cui chitarra ha veramente un timbro e uno solo e di lì non si schioda, a dispetto delle possibilità che lo strumento indiscutibilmente offrirebbe. Del resto c'è sempre una seconda chance, come si dice. O no?
