Walter Beltrami: Piccoli Numeri

Leggendo il titolo dell’album e delle undici tracce in esso contenute si può intuire come Piccoli numeri, seconda uscita per la nuova serie Cam Jazz dedicata ai giovani talenti, possa rivelarsi un album minimalista, introspettivo e riflessivo.

Siamo dalle parti di una proposta musicale che definire jazzistica in senso stretto sarebbe riduttivo. Ci sono, è vero, in Piccoli numeri, l’improvvisazione ed uno splendido interplay tra musicisti, ma soprattutto vi è un’idea di musica totale, con un’ampia gamma di riferimenti alla musica accademica, a quella contemporanea, a certa avanguardia, mondi davvero molto distanti dagli esordi in ambito rock, blues, fusion, di Walter Beltrami.

Colpiscono, del chitarrista e compositore bresciano, l’abilità nell’utilizzare le pause, i silenzi e le zone d’ombra, la capacità di espandere le maglie della scrittura verso spazi di vuoto pneumatico, dove le onde sonore appaiono perennemente galleggiare, sostenute dagli invisibili fili dell’emozione.

Nulla da dire sulla bravura dei musicisti, e che sorpresa la leggerezza, la sensibilità ed il controllo sulle dinamiche nel drumming di Emanuele Maniscalco, ormai una certezza tra i batteristi delle nuove leve. Ma se il fraseggio e la sonorità della chitarra di Beltrami mostrano un apprezzabile e riuscito tentativo di svincolarsi in modo netto dai soliti modelli dominanti, il tenore complessivo dell’album risente di una certa monocromia, con rari avvicendamenti timbrici ed una certa fissità ritmica. Ed è forse questo l’unico neo di un album comunque delizioso.
