The Blueprint Project: People I Like
C’è da scommettere che Han Bennik non vedeva l’ora di suonare con una band di pazzi scatenati come The Blueprint Project. Sembra di vederlo quel diavolo di Han, con la sua bandana rossa calata sulla fronte, divertirsi come un matto dietro i suoi tamburi e inventarsi strampalate figurazioni ritmiche.

Come lo stomp iniziale, frizzante e imprevedibile nel suo alternarsi di situazioni, come l’omaggio a Herbie Nichols, uno dei più grandi sottovalutati della storia del jazz, reso in una deliziosa versione barrelhouse. Per non parlare del simil calypso “Captain Salvy Sets Sail“, del clarinetto Anni Trenta che sostiene “Bestie, With Angles” o della splendida “Nu Noon at Yoshi’s“, ballad con il sax alto di Jared Sims sul filo della tonalità, il piano di Tyson Roger e le corde di Eric Hofbauer a distillare macchie di colori acidi, le spazzole di Bennik che dispensano insoliti fruscii.

Seconda uscita ufficiale del gruppo, People I Like conferma la bontà di un’operazione che fa dell’ironia e della fantasia un imprescindibile punto di forza, sotto la spinta di musicisti dalla mente aperta, allergici alle classificazioni e alla routine interpretativa.
