Sin dall'apertura dell'iniziale "Mcjazz" il chitarrista Jake Hertzog conferma l'ottima impressione che il suo album di esordio Chromatosphere aveva suscitato nel 2009. Il suo fraseggio è preciso e pieno di energia. Il suono che proviene dalle sue chitarre è carico di tensione. Non si può ignorare. La sua padronanza tecnica gli consente di miscelare le influenze più disparate che lo portano da Pat Metheny a Jimi Hendrix, da Ben Monder a Stevie Ray Vaughan, da Eric Clapton a Bill Connors, senza dimenticare Tom Morello dei Rage Against the Machine e Billie Joe Armstrong dei Green Day che lo stesso Jake Hertzog cita nelle note di copertina, curate da Bill Milkowski.

Lo accompagnano in questo album, (ispirato, sin dal titolo, da una lezione con Mick Goodrick, al 'Berklee College of Music,' sulle permutazioni matematiche dei 'Patterns') i veterani Harvie S al basso e Victor Jones alla batteria. Con una sezione ritmica del genere le evoluzioni della chitarra di Hertzog trovano terreno fertile per innescare lunghe spirali che si inseguono senza fine.

Otto composizioni su undici sono brani originali scritti dallo stesso chitarrista che poi arrangia con gusto tre evergreen come "What's New," "Georgia on My Mind" e "I Love You," in apparenza piuttosto distanti dal suo mondo, ma in realtà ben inseriti in questo contesto proprio grazie alle scelte decise in sede di arrangiamento.
