Thomas Linger: Out In It
ByThe only trio track is "Mercurial Behemoth" with Linger's playing informed by McCoy Tyner. Using strong percussive riffs, Linger brings a propulsive flair. The title track has plenty of vitality with Linger and Bernstein demonstrating full-bodied staccato phrasing. Not to be outdone, Farnsworth chimes in with an earthy drum solo.
"Lush Life" is a solo piano showcase. With no cover from the rhythm section, Linger ranges over the keyboard, making some rich music. "Woofin' and Tweetin'" is a no nonsense twelve bar blues with Bernstein carrying the weight with aplomb. Linger's efforts are spry and sharp with Nakamura adding to the thickened atmosphere. All in all a swinging and cohesive debut release.
