Ascoltare un nuovo CD di Kenny Wheeler è sempre un'esperienza emozionante, che tocca le zone più remote del cuore. Le sue composizioni esemplificano al meglio la forza evocativa della musica, provocando pathos ed intensità emotiva in chi la ascolta. Grazie ad un'intesa profonda con i due fuoriclasse scelti come compagni di viaggio, John Taylor al piano e Steve Swallow al basso, in One of Many Wheeler dà vita ad un iridescente caleidoscopio minimalista, capace di ordire trame dense ed astratte in un comune respiro a tre voci.

Attraverso un dialogo tanto libero strutturalmente quanto liricamente profondo questo trio si muove come un unico organismo palpitante. La loro è una musica senza tempo di lacerante bellezza, pensata per sublimare la forza del jazz e oltrepassarla con capacità drammaturgiche. Il flicorno è un'emozione, una voce sussurrata prima che un suono limpido. Intime e toccanti sono le dieci tracce proposte, sublimi esempi della purezza espressiva che fanno di Wheeler un classico vivente del jazz. Taylor e Swallow danno un apporto decisivo in questo continuo dialogare con brillantezza di tocco e di timing per un disco tra i più seducenti degli ultimi anni.

L'età non ha per nulla segnato la lucidità e la statura artistica dell'ottantunenne musicista canadese, più che mai pronto a dispensare note di fragile quanto lirico romanticismo.

Un CD imperdibile.
