Dafnison Music è l'etichetta fondata dal batterista di origine cubana Dafnis Prieto allo scopo di presentare sul mercato discografico i propri lavori con pieno controllo su tutte le fasi della realizzazione. Con Musae questo processo viene messo a disposizione per la prima volta di un leader diverso, nella fattispecie il sassofonista, anch'esso di origini cubane, Roman Filiu. Gli appassionati lo ricorderanno negli Irakere di Chucho Valdes o recentemente con il progetto David Murray Plays Nat King Cole in Spanish, e con questo Musae dà alle stampe il secondo album da leader, dopo Blowin' Reflection del 2006, in realtà il primo a godere di adeguata distribuzione.

Diciamo subito che in Musae non troviamo né latin, né spanish ne ritmi caraibici, se non qua e là più come possibile suggestione che non come effettiva cifra stilistica. Il riferimento principale sembra essere quello di un jazz moderno che oscilla tra forme definite, fluente e dai suoni quasi patinati, ed episodi più aperti, nervosi nello sviluppo, scontrosi nell'umore. Nel primo caso è la chitarra di Adam Rogers a fissare le coordinate, nel secondo il piano di David Virelles apre a suggestioni diverse e cerca soluzioni meno prevedibili. Con i camaleontici sassofoni di Filiu a tessere trame nello spirito di una musica accattivante ma incerta tra immediata comunicatività e profondo sviluppo delle idee.
