Lee Shaw Trio: Live in Graz
Pur non essendo una innovatrice, il pianismo della Shaw trabocca di squisità musicalità e le sette tracce del live austriaco riescono a catturane la classe cristallina nella sua limpida, elegante icasticità
Senza ricercare strutture insolite, il suo trio cerca di offrire la spontaneità e la freschezza del jazz dal vivo, con invidiabile interplay e senso del blues. È un disco molto misurato, intelligente e godibile, che rimane comunque ancorato ad una concezione classica del piano trio. In compenso tanto swing, sicurezza armonica, chiarezza di fraseggio e distesa comunicativa.
È un trio che senza fare mirabilie riesce a produrre un jazz classico ma da manuale, con qualche bella scelta in scaletta, a cominciare da "Night Mist" di Jamal. Dal DVD si apprende che la Shaw fu la mentrice di John Medesky, insieme a tante altre cose che lasciamo scoprire direttamente al pubblico.
