Perché ascoltare Vermeulen ed il suo trio? Per un senso centrifugo della concezione musicale, acceso da un lirismo appassionato. Oltre ad essere un apprezzato didatta in alcuni prestigiosi conservatori del Belgio, Vermeulen è pianista di punta della scena jazz fiamminga. La sua è una splendida voce strumentale ancorché atipica nel panorama belga. Un pianista elegante e raffinato, votato come Giano bifronte agli equilibri complessi, per ricercare densità e rarefazione, frammentazioni del discorso sonoro e fughe solitarie.

Una proposta quanto mai diversificata, che avvalendosi di una pulsazione forte e stratificata, si divide tra febbrile destrutturazione della forma jazzistica e lucido camerismo. La illuminano in maniera superba Marek Partaman ed il nostro Manolo Cabras, da qualche anno residente in Belgio per trovare sbocchi artistici impensabili in Italia.

Due compagni di viaggio importanti per far rifulgere la tavolozza sfavillante del leader, eccelso protagonista di un percorso vivo e palpitante, che rivitalizza la tradizione senza far routine.

Un esempio alto della vitalità della scena musicale belga e naturalmente delle sempiterna forza creativa del jazz.
