Paul Motian: Live at the Village Vanguard - Vol. 1
Non appena ho messo il CD nel lettore, tuttavia, i miei timori sono stati spazzati via da un incipit tipicamente Motianiano, con accenti spostati ed armonie assolutamente contemporanee. Ritornato in pace con il CD (che sciocco che ero stato a dubitare di Motian!), ho quindi apprezzato con doppia gioia la sua bellissima musica. I sottili intrecci dei sax. Più "tradizionale" quello di Potter, più "metropolitano" quello di Osby. Le suggestioni armoniche di Kikuchi, a volte lievi come una piuma e sottilmente evocativi (If You Could See Me Now), altre volte grintosamente assertive. Il solido supporto del contrabbasso di Grenadier. E, naturalmente, il particolarissimo drumming del leader.
Jazz purissimo, autentico, senza bisogno di essere definito meglio da aggettivi che in realtà ne annacquano l'essenza. Jazz che guarda decisamente avanti.
