Steve Moore: Light Echoes

Già attivo da diversi anni, sia in solo (anche sotto diversi pseudonimi) che come metà del duo synth-prog Zombi, il sintetista Steve Moore, ammiratore dichiarato della 'kosmische musik' tedesca, è qui al suo debutto su etichetta Cuneiform. Questo suo nuovo lavoro sembra uscito direttamente dagli anni '70; infatti, non solo la musica richiama direttamente quella di Klaus Schulze e dei Tangerine Dream, ma anche gli strumenti usati (sintetizzatori, sequencer ed effetti) sono quelli rigorosamente analogici di allora. Il risultato, per la sua totale aderenza agli stilemi del genere, è qualcosa di più di un semplice omaggio, configurandosi quasi come un vero e proprio apocrifo. Non manca niente degli ingredienti tradizionali, distribuiti su tutti i sei brani culminanti nel lungo finale di "Ancient Shorelines II."

Il lavoro non dispiacerà agli amanti del genere classico; si vede che Moore ha ascoltato attentamente e assimilato le opere dei suoi protagonisti, e ne ricalca le orme con grande sicurezza e consapevolezza dei propri mezzi. L'aggettivo 'spaziale' è ancora quello che più si adatta a descrivere le atmosfere evocate dagli strumenti elettronici, modellatori di un affresco cosmico che avvolge e coinvolge (e anche un po' travolge...) l'ascoltatore.

L'unico reale limite di un disco onesto e sincero sta nel suo rivolgersi all'indietro anziché guardare avanti, anche se il paesaggio su cui si sofferma lo sguardo è di quelli che hanno fatto la storia della musica contemporanea.
