Luigi Martinale Trio: Le sue ali
Qui il contrabbassista di Trenton, New Jersey, inonda la musica con un suono pieno, antico, ricco di storia, regalando assoli di commovente bellezza e fornendo una nuvola di note sulla quale Martinale può adagiare tutta la sua poetica. Niente colpi a sorpresa, nessun fuoco d'artificio, semplicemente, si fa per dire, una grande voce messa al servizio di canoni di bellezza classici.
Che sono proprio quelli con i quali sa flirtare con estrema naturalezza il pianista piemontese. In Le sue ali vengono proposte alcune delle composizioni che nel corso degli anni sono diventate un punto fermo del suo repertorio, a cui si aggiungono alcuni standard arcinoti, qui trattati con leggerezza e sensibilità, come è evidente nelle belle versioni delle ellingtoniane "African Flower" e "Prelude to a Kiss".
E proprio leggerezza e sensibilità sono le peculiarità dello stile pianistico di Martinale, che mettendo a frutto la solida preparazione accademica, utilizza al meglio la sopraffina arte del tocco per un gioco delizioso di preziosità armoniche e timbriche.
