Quando c'è una relazione padre/figlio tra due artisti, si usa in genere la figura del genitore per presentare il figlio. Per il giovane pubblico del jazz è invece opportuno fare il contrario, dicendo che l'ottantenne bassista leader di questo trio è il padre di Michael, trombettista e orchestratore acclamato per gli album The Painted Lady Suite , Suite Extracts Vol. 1 e per gli arrangiamenti di Lovers di Nels Cline.

Jay Leonhart è un veterano del modern mainstream e ha collaborato con decine di grandi jazzmen: da Jim Hall a Gerry Mulligan, da Phil Woods a Lee Konitz, da Kenny Barron a Eddie Higgins. È stato anche molto richiesto da protagonisti della pop music come Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra o Carly Simon. In veste di leader ha inciso una quindicina di album a suo nome.

I suoi recenti piano trio offrono un elegante e piacevole mainstream, con il bassista che ama cantare le sue canzoni. Qui lo accompagnano Tomoko Ohno, brava pianista—allieva di Harold Mabern e già sua partner nel recente Don't You Wish—più il batterista Vito Lesczak, altro noto professionista del mondo musicale statunitense. Lo stile di Jay Leonhart rammenta quello di Dave Frishberg e Mose Allison: un jazz accattivante e ironico, particolarmente congeniale all'intima atmosfera dei club.
