It took me a while to get pianist Joshua White's album 13 Short Stories but it was worth the wait. White and his West Coast quartet are very, very good. The Australian Art Orchestra has become an institution in the Australian creative music scene. They're now directed by trumpeter and composer Peter Knight; their latest, Sometimes Home Can Grow Stranger Than Space, maintains their high standards. Pianist Mara Rosenbloom shares her new Respiration , ably supported by bassist Sean Conly and drummer Chad Taylor, while the sharing season begins with a seasonal tune from Chicago's forceful saxophonist Mars Williams' An Ayler Chistmas Vol. 4 -New York vs Chicago. And I share a couple of tastes of the new batch of albums from Clean Feed Records (more next week).
