Joachim Kuhn, Alain Bedard & Uroboro

Click the play button to listen

German pianist Joachim Kuhn headed for Paris in the midst of the late 60s-early 70s free frenzy in Europe, ultimately forming a very influential trio with bassist Jean-Francois Jenny-Clark and drummer Daniel Humair. Kuhn considered that group the band of his life. He may have to make room for his new French Trio with bassist Thibault Cellier and drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq Their debut recording, The Way, is a perfect vehicle for the 80 year-old Kuhn to be as free as he likes. Cellier is a rock on bass while Darrifourcq shows why he's one of the most unpredictable percussionists on the planet. Definitely look for this one. Montreal bassist Alain Bédard has been a leader on the Canadian scene for years, and his new Auguste Quartet release shows he has no plans on slowing down. The next-gen talented bassist from Toronto, Dan Fortin, takes a solo/duo approach on his new Cannon. A quartet spawned out of the 577 Record label heads down Sun Ra}} road with their new The Sea, The Space And Egypt Vol. 1, while the English band Uroboro looks back to a release from less than two years ago and revisits the same music with a totally different attitude and approach.
