Wadada Leo Smith: Heart's Reflections
Dobbiamo aggiungere, ma non suoni come un rimprovero, che un pochino Wadada Leo Smith se li è cercati, questi paragoni. Con la sua partecipazione a progetti (in particolare Yo Miles con Henry Kaiser) che invece si cibavano proprio delle analogie con Miles, cercando una continuità problematica, pure in presenza di ottimi riscontro artistici.
Ma poi la sua vena poetica, decisamente lontana e spesso antitetica rispetto a quella di Miles, lo hanno portato, aggiungiamo noi fortunatamente, a trovare una sua estetica assolutamente originale che si ciba dell'elettricità ma porta poi la musica da tutt'altra parte rispetto alle strade battute dal divino trombettista che ci ha lasciato nel settembre del 1991. Strade che nessuno in realtà è mai stato in grado di ripercorrere con la stessa intensità, con la stessa personalità, con la stessa abilità.
Le quattro chitarre elettriche presenti nella strumentazione sono un altro segnale importante per capire quello che ci troviamo di fronte, ma va subito detto che vengono usate con sapienza, sovrapposte e miscelate a dovere, come solo un mago dello shaker sa fare. E questa magia è un po' la cifra stilistica dello sciamano Wadada, capace di trovare la pioggia anche nel deserto, capace di far sgorgare emozioni anche da materiale apparentemente semplicissimo.
Anche le tastiere elettriche hanno un ruolo ben strutturato ed allargano sapientemente l'orizzonte, rispecchiandosi adeguatamente negli specchi messi ai bordi della scena. La musica corre via senza farsi mai acchiappare, sempre spinta in avanti anche quando apparentemente va a scandagliare scenari da calma piatta. Ma il movimento è sempre presente, a volte esplicito, a volte sotterraneo. Ma cercatelo e lo troverete di sicuro.
