Free Association is a series of collaborative mix-tapes curated by Mondo Jazz in association with musicians and selectors of various backgrounds.

Free Association mix-tapes develop as a conversation. The first selector sends a tune cherry-picked to suit, and ideally surprise, the second selector who then, in turn, returns the favor. An hour or so into this exchange, after unexpected turns and joyful revelations, the two look back at the results of this game of musical table tennis and decide whether to share it with the world.

The guest of the fourth installment of this series is the shapeshifting Dublin-based selector Stephanie Byrne, whose eclectic mixtapes have been for years among the most-dopamine inducing gems that can be found on Mixcloud.

Enjoy these groovy cuts which should appeal both to your jazz sensibility and your need to dance these crazy times off. From Stacey Kent to Jaga Jazzist, from the deep productions of Hal Willner, King Britt and Mark de Clive-Lowe to the Brazil-tinged adventures of Marc Mac, Towa Tei, Count Bass D and Carlinhos Brown, to the tongue-in-cheek music of Gaijin a Go-Go (Pictured) and Uri Nakayama... and much more!

Mondo Jazz's picks are the odd numbered ones; Stephanie Byrne's the even numbered ones.

Happy listening!
