Italian drummer {m: Francesca Remigi}} has been turning heads with her playing and compositions, and her second release, The Human Web, will no doubt add to a growing reputation for originality. This time she looks at the effects of technology and social media on society. Fittingly she put this album together with contributions from the other musicians who used contemporary technology to send her their parts. There are a few trips back when technology didn't rule with music from Germans Klaus Ignatzek (with Dave Liebman) and trumpeter Beckerhoff, the English group Viva La Black and Sam Rivers. Two of the finest pianists, Satoko Fujii and Eri Yamamoto have new releases—Fujii with bassist {m: Joe Fonda}}, and Yamamoto with William Parker, Chad Fowler and Steve Hirsh. We also check out Barcelona reed man {m: Albert Cirera}} for the first time.
