Ventiquattro brani per lo più molto brevi compongono questo sfiziosissimo nuovo lavoro del cinquantaseienne polistrumentista zurighese Peter A. Schmid, che è andato a inciderlo (in un unico giorno, il 31 agosto 2014) allo Strobe Recording di Chicago, dividendosi fra duetti (quindici), una sua specialità (fra i suoi numerosi partner nel corso degli anni ricordiamo almeno Evan Parker, Ned Rothenberg e Vinny Golia), e trii (nove, consecutivi).

La preferenza, come spesso accade nella musica di Schmid, va di regola ai registri gravi, cosicché lui privilegia il sax baritono e i clarinetti basso e contrabbasso, e tutt'intorno si circonda di altri clarinetti gravi, contrabbasso, trombone, confezionando un album di una coerenza stringente, quasi arcigna, in cui anche le percussioni giocano un ruolo centrale in almeno sette episodi, in prevalenza blandendo colori e aromi vari più che stilemi strettamente ritmici.

Ci sono climi segreti e cogitabondi, scuri a tratti fin quasi allo spettrale, non di rado lungo il suggestivo crinale che separa (ma nel contempo unisce) suono e silenzio, non senza incursioni su aree più vitali (come in "Clarinetrio #4," o in "Windy City #1," nervoso e frammentato, o ancora nel trittico "Twosax" e nel primo dei due "Twoclarinet"), fino al conclusivo "Drum 'n' Bass," il brano più ampio del lotto (5:41), duo clarone/percussioni che, nel suo decollare discreto, pudico, per poi liberarsi via via in un progressivo crescendo (peraltro sempre controllato), s'impone un po' come quintessenza e paradigma ideale dell'intero lavoro.
