3 Cohens: Braid
Appartengono a questa schiera i 3 Cohens, al secolo la sassofonista e clarinettista Anat Cohen, ed i suoi fratelli Yuval Cohen (sopranista) e Avishai Cohen (trombettista), in questo album affiancati da un musicista in forte ascesa nella considerazione internazionale come il contrabbassista Omer Avital, e da due musicisti più “consolidati”, come il pianista Aaron Goldberg ed il batterista Eric Harland.
L'album raccoglie prevalentemente composizioni originali dei tre fratelli, che mostrano una predilezione per il jazz che va dalle origini agli anni '60, interpretato tuttavia con uno spirito contemporaneo, ed arricchito con echi ed influenze di musiche medio-orientali (quindi non necessariamente klezmer).
Nulla di particolarmente originale, e tuttavia siamo di fronte ad una musica che si ascolta con piacere, grazie alla brillantezza dei motivi melodici, all'evidente coesione della band, e ad una forte energia esecutiva.
