Bobby Timmons + 2024 Look Back

This week, we sample two albums recorded on this day, December 21, 2024 in history: Andrew Hill's Spiral(1974) featuring Lee Konitz and Duke Ellington's Far East Suite (1966). From there we'll remember Philadelphia pianist Bobby Timmons who was born 89 years ago this week. Tunes will include "Moanin"as performed with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, his work with Lee Morgan and his own solo work. For our second hour, I would like to revisit recordings released in 2024 that really made an impression on me. This is not a top ten list, but more of a mix-tape if you will of recordings I highly recommend. Artists include Patricia Brennan Septet, Kim Cass, Vijay Iyer Trio, Tyshawn Sorey Trio, lux quartet, The Kris Davis Trio, Nasheet Waits and Ganavya.
