Linda May Han Oh: Sun Pictures

Read "Sun Pictures" reviewed by Enrico Bettinello

Pascal Le Boeuf: Pascal’s Triangle

Read "Pascal’s Triangle" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Linda Oh: Sun Pictures

Read "Sun Pictures" reviewed by Hrayr Attarian

Linda Oh arrived onto the jazz scene as a fully accomplished improviser with her introspective and free-flowing debut, Entry (Self Produced, 2010). On the follow-up, Initial Here(Greenleaf, 2012), she expanded her range, drawing upon both the western classical repertoire and eastern folk tradition, as well as experimenting with electric fusion-informed sounds. Oh's understated yet highly sophisticated style is the phenomenal bassist's singular mark that characterizes these records, as well as her third release as a leader on Sun Pictures.

Linda Oh: Initial Here

Read "Initial Here" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Linda Oh: Initial Here

Read "Initial Here" reviewed by Mark F. Turner

President Theodore Roosevelt's famous quote, “Walk softly and carry a big stick," epitomizes Linda Oh, the soft-spoken bassist/composer who draws total respect with her intrepid musicianship. With her highly acclaimed self-released debut, Entry (2010), and increased visibility through recording dates and gigs like Dave Douglas' “Tea for 3" Tour, Oh is emerging as one of jazz's bright performers.Oh's sophomore release and first for Greenleaf, Initial Here, reveals even more of her savvy. Expanding from the debut's trio to ...

Linda Oh: Persevering Against the Odds

Read "Linda Oh: Persevering Against the Odds" reviewed by Mark F. Turner

In an arena that is overwhelmingly dominated by her male counterparts, bassist Linda May-Han Oh is going to be a force with which to be reckoned. Her auspicious, self-produced debut, Entry (2009), was lauded by critics, and was one of pianist Vijay Iyer's top picks for 2009. Born in Malaysia and living in New York, Oh impresses academically, having received first-class honors at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts for her thesis, A New Approach to Rhythmic Bass Improvisation, ...

Linda Oh Trio: Entry

Read "Entry" reviewed by Mark F. Turner

First appearances and sounds can be deceiving. Linda Oh's petite stature defies the muscularity that her instrument emanates--a knotty booming bass that's at once authoritative and free flowing, delivered with momentum and zest. And like the well-noted arcos of Charles Mingus, Dave Holland and Charlie Haden, Oh already has the traits to become a noteworthy player and leader, as witnessed on Entry. Born in Malaysia, raised in Australia, and living in New York, Oh's extensive training included ...
