Ryan Cohan: Another Look
Ci sono diversi motivi per apprezzare il nuovo lavoro in studio del pianista Ryan Cohan, a cominciare dalla guizzante melodia dell'iniziale "Monk'n Around," brano che a grandi linee determina le atmosfere che caratterizzeranno anche gli altri dieci passaggi del suo Another Look.

Tempi spesso medio-veloci, colori di fondo affidati ai tasti del leader ed esposizioni tematiche messe in evidenza ora dal vibrafono di Joe Locke, poi dal sax di Geof Brandfield (protagonista di un solo importante in "Joshua"), il tutto arricchito dalle percussioni di Steve Kroon, il quale riesce a dare il giusto spanish tinge anche ai brani più cadenzati ("You & Me").

Album godibile, camaleontico, e che in alcuni momenti sa strappare sensazioni vibranti, come nel caso di una coloratissima versione di "Caravan" o nell'intensa "Song for My Grandfather," probabilmente il passaggio di maggior spessore di un lavoro che non lesina emozioni.
