Parker-Schlippenbach-Lytton: America 2003
La formazione è dettata in parte dal caso, nel senso che il pianista ha sostituito all’ultimo momento il bassista Barry Guy. Sicchè, come ricorda Parker, la combinazione è ottenuta prendendo qualcosa sia dal trio Parker-Guy-Lytton che da quello di Schlippenbach.
Ma ciò che conta è l’affiatamento assicurato dall’assidua frequentazione che questi maestri improvvisatori mantengono dal oltre trent’anni, testimoniata inoltre dalla fedeltà assoluta ai procedimenti sonori della free improvisation.
Anche se il tono generale delle musiche è prevedibile, non si pensi a mancanza di sottili sorprese. Dovute soprattutto, ci sembra, alla prevalenza di uno spirito squisitamente jazz, che emerge rispetto ad altre sedute del genere.
Non che il trio indulga in giri armonici o forme chiuse, piuttosto accetta di frequente la rotazione di solisti in primo piano, o un originale call and response che si dispiega anche nei diversi duetti momentanei delle esecuzioni.
Se si conoscono le virtù dei tre, si avranno le conferme delle rispettive intelligenze, tuttavia meno clamorose del consueto. Se invece si è digiuni rispetto a questi linguaggi, il doppio CD rappresenta un buon viatico di apprendimento.
Il primo disco mostra un Parker discreto nel suo incedere, disponibile a lasciare luce più al piano di Schlippenbach, che nella seconda traccia scolpisce un assolo dei suoi, sulla linea di un Cecil Taylor pacato.
Il lavoro di scavo più graffiante arriva nel secondo disco, con una prima traccia impressionante, seguita da un assolo al soprano di Parker, in fiato continuo. E, tra sequenze introspettive e climax più intensi si arriva in fondo all’ascolto apprezzando le conversazioni sagge di tre veterani la cui musica è senza tempo.
