Todd Clouser: A Love Electric

Todd Clouser ha lasciato gli Stati Uniti ed è emigrato in Messico, nella penisola Los Cabos, alla ricerca di un differente approccio ai ritmi della vita. E inevitabilmente ai ritmi della musica. In questo suo terzo album da 'messicano' ha voluto al suo fianco un trombettista molto noto come Steven Bernstein, sempre efficace e affilato nelle sue uscite. Gli altri musicisti sono meno noti ma sono molto bravi a creare e mantenere un groove che ricorda molto il rhythm and blues venato di jazz degli anni settanta, le dilatate escursioni di Curtis Mayfield e Les MacCann.

La chitarra di Clouser è efficace anche se certamente non siamo di fronte ad una nuovo eroe delle sei corde. Semmai è interessante il suo approccio complessivo alla musica, il suo concetto globale di suono, la sua capacità di far lavorare il gruppo, con la ritmica sempre bene in evidenza e un efficace lavoro di sostegno ai solisti, che non sono mai abbandonati e vengono invece costantemente nutriti di sollecitazioni.

Todd Closet firma tutte le composizioni dell'album ad eccezione di "One" di Harry Nilsson e dimostra di una buona vena anche nella scrittura e negli arrangiamenti, sempre ben rodati e fluidi. Il gioco ad incastro delle tastiere ricorda vagamente alcune cose del migliore Miles elettrico, anche se ovviamente la caratura complessiva è decisamente diversa.
