John Medeski: A Different Time
Niente affatto, perché A Different Time, debutto in piano solo di John Medeski è molto di più. È uno schiaffo violento al rumore assordante del mondo che ci sta attorno, è quanto di meno accattivante un'etichetta (e che etichetta, la leggendaria OKeh Records rinata grazie alla Sony) che voglia conquistare pubblico ed ascoltatori possa immettere sul mercato, è un percorso di ricerca interiore che si trasforma in rito di purificazione.
A Different Time è li a dimostrarci come il silenzio possa assumere i contorni della bellezza più intima e profonda, come la tastiera di una pianoforte possa per una volta svestire i panni di arena per sfide all'ultima respiro e trasformarsi in naturale prolungamento di un pensiero, di una meditazione, di un sentimento pudico nel manifestarsi.
Medeski e il Gaveau 1924, lo storico pianoforte francese presente nello studio di registrazione a sua volta ricavato all'interno di una ottocentesca chiesa di New York - dettagli tutt'altro che secondari nel determinare il carattere speciale dell'evento - sono in perfetta simbiosi. Le dita del tastierista di Louisville accarezzano avorio ed ebano ricavandone suoni puri ed evocativi, note sospese che lo strumento rimanda in riverberi sonori, che a loro volta avvolgono in un abbraccio confortevole, il musicista e l'ascoltatore.
Sorprendente.
