Ellen Rowe: Wishing Well
Artista elegante e sensibile sia come pianista che come autrice, la Rowe si mantiene nell'alveo del modern mainstream con un lavoro fresco, piacevole e ben eseguito, che si avvale della dolce presenza di Ingrid Jensen al flicorno e del giovane sassofonista Andy Haefner.
Il percorso dell'album si snoda attraverso varie ballad caratterizzate dalla forte impronta cantabile e qualche momento ritmicamente più accentuato ma sempre condotto con alto senso della forma. Tra i componenti del gruppo si snoda un dialogo rilassato e ricco di spunti lirici e sfumature dalle tinte radiose.
Tra i momenti migliori segnaliamo "For That Which Was Living, Lost" un brano dall'atmosfera sognante, costruito su note lunghe e strutture semplici che lasciano respirare la musica.
La Rowe evidenzia le trasparenze del suo stile, il sassofonista Andrew Bishop il caldo timbro ed Ingrid Jensen le tinte radiose del suo flicorno.
Non sarà un disco memorabile ma dal lavoro collettivo emerge tutta la bellezza di una tradizione ampiamente assimilata, condivisa e rielaborata.
