Alban Darche: Trumpet Kingdom

Come ogni casa discografica che si rispetti, nel corso del tempo l'ungherese BMC ha dato vita ad una linea musicale riconoscibile, che si sviluppa intorno ad un nucleo consolidato di musicisti, prevalentemente magiari e francesi, che ritroviamo in numerosi album prodotti dall'etichetta e che costituiscono anche il nucleo portante del festival jazz di Budapest, alla cui organizzazione la BMC partecipa attivamente.

Non fa eccezione questo album del sassofonista bretone Alban Darche, nel quale troviamo vecchie conoscenze della BMC come Blondiau e Vloeimans (e qui Darche conferma la propria predilezione per la tromba, del resto rimarcata dal titolo del CD), o Gadó e Boisseau.

Un album orchestrale nella struttura e nella formazione, nel quale però l'esecuzione prende forma quasi-cameristica, come se Darche (intelligentemente!) volesse sfuggire alle trappole insite nell'orchestrazione jazz (ridondanza, effetto big-band, effetto varietà, ecc ...) che spesso banalizzano e rendono deteriore questo tipo di musica.

Qui, invece, i toni sono sempre sommessi, quasi intimisti. Basti ascoltare l'apertura del brano, un andamento latino per basso, batteria e tromba, che si apre all'inserimento del sax solo dopo oltre novanta secondi di musica. O la delicata malinconia della quinta traccia, assai distante dalle scintillanti atmosfere delle orchestre di fiati. Come se ci fosse una sorta di riservatezza, di pudore rispetto alla sfacciata gaiezza degli ottoni. Non a caso, i momenti festosi dell'album vengono regolarmente "smontati" da una forte vena dissacrante, a tratti circense (si ascoltino Joseph & Sa Maman, oppure Fanfare Du Jour).

Un album molto intimo, davvero di ottimo livello.
