Parte integrante dell'afro-american community di New Orleans, l'Hot 8 Brass Band torna con un nuovo album, riproponendo l'incendiaria miscela di soul, rap, funk, hip hop e jazz in chiave di marchin' band.

Fondata nel 1995 dal tubista Bennie "Big Peter" Pete e dal trombonista Jerome "Baybay" Jones, la formazione è sopravvissuta alla tragedia dell'uragano Katrina ma ha subito dei lutti in situazioni di violenza urbana, perdendo quattro dei suoi componenti storici. Questo terzo album lo dedica a loro e ad altri amici scomparsi senza abbandonare per questo l'eccitante formula musicale fatta di ritmi concitati, iterazioni collettive e timbri urlati.

La forza espressiva dell'ensemble è notevole e dal vivo deve risultare irresistibile. Chi non li conosce può pensare alla Dirty Dozen Brass Band o alla Brass Fantasy di Lester Bowie, ma questa fanfara ha una sua precisa fisionomia: meno eclettica e jazzisticamente orientata forse, ma di maggior impatto popolare. Difficile scegliere tra i brani, che andrebbero ascoltati con volume dello stereo al massimo: inizia con "Tombstone Intro" presentando in forma di rap il percorso musicale e conclude con "Tombstone Outro" con la voce di Alvarez "B.I.G. AL" Huntley sempre protagonista.
