Daniele D'Agaro: The Tempest
Accompagnato alla batteria e ai timpani da Han Bennink, suo compagno di lungo corso, e all'Hammond da Bruno Marini, polistrumentista ben noto come baritonista, D'Agaro mette in scena cinque lunghi bozzetti improvvisati e tre omaggi alla tradizione jazzistica, tutto accomunato però da una cifra di grande libertà espressiva.
Il gruppo è molto paritetico - e non potrebbe essere altrimenti, vista la fortissima predominanza dell'improvvisazione - anche se Bennink (assai più misurato di quanto ci abbia abituati) e Marini finiscono giocoforza per restare un passo indietro, all'ascolto, rispetto alle linee disegnate da D'Agaro, che alterna clarinetto e tenore con naturalezza, con ciò mutando scenari alla musica. Ad esempio, nella bluesy "Ariel in Clarinetville" impiega in modo mainstream il clarinetto e lo contrappone all'organo "anni '60" di Marini; nell'assai più free "Caliban" usa il tenore nei registri espressivi più estremi; in "Goodbay," ballad virata in acido, lo stesso sax è impiegato invece con vibrati e forme espressive assai più tradizionali. Tutto sempre con straordinaria maestria e appropriatezza, a mostrare una volta di più che il successo da lui raggiunto è pienamente meritato.
Lavoro complessivamente godibilissimo, molto originale per gli scenari di libertà saturati dai riferimenti alla tradizione e per la presenza atipica dell'Hammnod. Prova di grande maturità dei protagonisti.
