Riverside: The New National Anthem
Tre degli undici brani portano la sua firma e a completare il quartetto, oltre al batterista Jim Doxas, troviamo Steve Swallow -compagno di Carla Bley e bassista dello storico trio di Giuffre e Paul Bley -in una sorta di circolo virtuoso che alimenta una serie di suggestioni sonore e di rimandi storici. Proprio il suono è elemento caratterizzante l'incisione, caldo e confortevole, con i due fiati a giocare di impasti timbrici nell'esposizione del tema e ad inanellare linee essenziali nei controcanti.
Il basso elettrico a cinque corde di Swallow è il valore aggiunto, un moto perpetuo discreto ma implacabile nel disegnare stimolanti arabeschi e nel contribuire con l'inconfondibile sonorità al sound complessivo di New National Anthem. Che risulta disco gradevole, senza sbavature, curato nei minimi dettagli, di comunicativa immediata, dalla scrittura fluida e sufficientemente variegata.
