Andrea Beneventano Trio: The Driver
Formazione classica dunque, che sa offrire nelle nove tracce proposte - tutte a firma del leader tranne un paio di standard - una visione jazzistica che non si discosta molto dalle linee guida del mainstream (nell'accezione più ampia del termine), anche se nel modo di proporsi del pianista siciliano si rintracciano diversi motivi di interesse, che rendono l'ascolto dell'intero lavoro piacevole e meritevole d'attenzione.
A cominciare dal modo in cui esprime una visione melodica compiuta e versata a un'estrema bellezza formale in "Passing Seasons," al passaggio più introspettivo e ombroso dell'opener "Cool River," alle frammentate visioni di "The Driver," brano nervoso e scattante, nel quale Puglisi e Angelucci si producono in un notevole lavoro di accompagnamento.
Beneventano intreccia diverse radici stilistiche che spaziano dal bop di "I Got Your Rhythm" alle contemplazioni di "My Gospel," cosicchè il suo lavoro - caratterizzato anche da un ottimo interplay - non conosce momenti di cedimento né dal punto di vista formale né sotto il profilo espressivo.
