Maya Homburger - Barry Guy: Tales of Enchantment
Dall'alto di questa maestria strumentale e accomunati da un lavoro di studio ed interplay continuo, direi quotidiano, a stretto contatto di gomito, in Tales of Enchantment i due pilotano un viaggio musicale che copre oltre mille anni, saldando "Veni creator spiritus," inno del nono secolo rivisitato anche da Mahler nella sua ottava sinfonia, e le composizioni dello stesso Guy: "Hommage à Max Bill," in sette parti, la suite "Tales of Enchantment," dedicata a Elana Gutmann, anch'essa strutturata in sette movimenti, e il solitario "Going Home," che rappresenta senza dubbio l'episodio più motorio e di maggiore densità jazzistica di tutto il CD. In mezzo a questi estremi cronologici si collocano le "Mistery Sonatas" scritte da Biber, di inaspettata seriosità e compattezza per essere opere della fine del Settecento, e "Hommage à J.S.B." di György Kurtág, di lapidaria essenzialità espressiva.
Ognuna di queste composizioni e interpretazioni andrebbe analizzata a fondo, nei suoi specifici caratteri musicali, ma quello che preme sottolineare è l'intima coerenza dei rimandi storico-estetici nel programma affrontato, come il solido, quasi abrasivo, impatto comunicativo dell'esecuzione.
