Meet Jakob Elvstrom:

I was born in 1966 on the Funen island in Denmark, being the oldest of three. I graduated from the Conservatory in Aarhus in 1995 with saxophone as my major, and since then I've been making a living playing and teaching music.

Instrument(s):

Saxophone (alto, soprano, baritone, tenor)

Teachers and/or influences?

Listened a lot to David Sanborn, Paul Desmond and Lou Donaldson.

I knew I wanted to be a musician when...

Aafter I tried to become a computer scientist at Aarhus University, and I thought it was awfully boring and I didn't understand anything after all.

Your sound and approach to music:

I like to keep things simple.

Your teaching approach:

My students are on a guided tour, they have to do the hard work themselves.

Road story: Your best or worst experience:

All the times when people have been dancing to the music I've played!

Favorite venue:

Copenhagen Jazzhouse. It's been a long time since I've played there, but it's a great place.

Your favorite recording in your discography and why?

SaxClub Vol. 1. This is the record I have always wanted to do and now I am able to play it like I think it's supposed to be.

What do you think is the most important thing you are contributing musically?

Positive energy.

CDs you are listening to now:

Dubstep.

Desert Island picks:

Earth, Wind & Fire.

If I weren't a jazz musician, I would be a:

Probably a rock n' roll musician.
