John Mosca

Trombonist John Mosca is a graduate of Juilliard, and has been on the faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, The New England Conservatory, and The University of Connecticut, among others. Modest by nature, he is one of the most respected instrumentalists in the world, a brilliant soloist, and one of the best jazz trombonists ever to grace the scene. John has appeared in numerous ensembles and on many records. For more than thirty years, he has played with the Grammy-nominated Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, formerly the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, and currently serves as its director. Stan Vincent

Put together his first jazz band as a junior high school student in Newton, Mass., and took lessons from the principal John Coffee, trombonist with the Boston Symphony. At Brown University, played with the Brunotes, a Condon-style band. Was a member of Jean and Doc Kittrell’s Chicago Stompers, Tex Wyndham’s Red Lion Jazz Band (Penn.), and in Boston the Jazz Doctors and Exit Jazz Band featuring banjoist Gil Roberts. Founding and current member of the Grammy-nominated New Black Eagle Jazz Band, known worldwide as the leading exponents of traditional jazz and said by John Wilson to be "the best New Orleans revivalist band in the U,S."

Born & raised — classically — in St John’s, Newfoundland, Tom Walsh lived & worked in Toronto for more than ten years before rebooting in Montréal. He’s performed &/or recorded improvisational or popular music with/for such artists as: Steven Barry, Iva Bittova, Jane Bunnett, Pierre Cartier, Michel F Côté, Paul Cram, Michel Cusson, Jean Derome, Lisle Ellis, Fred Frith, Vinny Golia, Bill Grove, Gerry Hemingway, Julius Hemphill, Jim Hillman, DD Jackson, Oliver Jones, Guy Kluscevek, Michel Lemieux, Robert Marcel Lepage, Evan Lurie, René Lussier, Al MacDowell, Joe McPhee, Phil Minton, David Mott, Bern Nix, Mary Margaret O’Hara, poet Michael Ondaatje, Zappa’s Don Preston, Bobby Wiseman, the Cowboy Junkies, the Barenaked Ladies, and Bran Van 3000 in Canada, the United States or throughout Europe. Born: January 27, 1954

Started trombone at age ten. Family Immigrated from Cincinnati to Los Angeles 1965. To New Orleans played 36 hours a week on Bourbon Street 1974-1976. To San Francisco 1976-1982. Back to New Orleans 1982-1988. Sacramento 1988-1990. San Francisco Bay Area 1990 to present.. Also tuba, euphonium and percussion. Built Professor Gizmo one man band 1974. Joined and recorded with The Cheap Suit Serenaders and The Klezmorim 1977. Worked with Don Neely's Royal Society Orch., Banu Gibson, The Dukes of Dixieland, Choro Time, Craig Ventresco and Meredith Axelrod (ragtime and blues etc.) various latin, swing, big bands,etc.

Willem De Koch

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Willem de Koch is a trombonist, composer, and educator. He is co-founder of The Westerlies, the brass quartet whose music “occupies a lively territory between jazz, Stephen Foster-styled folk and chamber music with bracing melodies and, crucially, an undeniable sense of fun” (Chris Barton, LA Times). The Westerlies have produced two critically acclaimed albums of genre-defying chamber music: their 2014 debut, Wish the Children Would Come On Home: The Music of Wayne Horvitz, and a 2016 double-CD of primarily original compositions, The Westerlies. Sought-after collaborators, The Westerlies were recently featured on Fleet Foxes’ Crack-Up (2017), and Dave Douglas’s Little Giant Still Life (2017); they spent much of the past season touring with Fleet Foxes in support of their new release, including performances at Coachella, Red Rocks Ampitheatre, and Hollywood Bowl

Phil Allen

Arranger/Composer/Valve Trombonist Phil Allen is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. His musical studies started with piano at 7 then trumpet at 10. His trumpet teacher (and later, arranging teacher) was Jim Edison, one of the very best lead trumpeters in the Midwest as well as a fine arranger and band leader. After a brief time at Hanover College, Indiana University and Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis; it was here that valve trombone became his primary instrument) majoring in music education, Phil left school and studied piano and theory with Steve Allee, composition and arranging with Alan Foust and Jazz Improvisation with Alan Kiger.In the 70's and 80's Phil played with and wrote for the Von Ohlen/Allee Big Band
