Mark Murphy, Folk Artist: Hiding Place

Read "Hiding Place" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

Mark Murphy's 2018 release Pocketful of Rainbows (Self Produced, 2018) was a surprise stand-out recording that year. Now, this Mark Murphy is not that Mark Murphy (1932 -2015), icon of jazz vocals. This Mark Murphy is a singer/songwriter whose 2016 release, Slip Away (Mini Movie) scored points for one of Downbeat Magazine's recordings of that year. ...

Bill Frisell: Valentine

Read "Valentine" reviewed by Ian Patterson

In an extraordinarily varied career Bill Frisell has made just a handful of trio recordings as leader, which is perhaps surprising given how frequently he performs in such a setting. In recent years the Baltimore-born, Denver-raised guitarist has toured two of his most empathetic trios, that with Kenny Wollesen and Tony Scherr and, latterly, with Rudy ...

Tony Scherr

Tony Scherr is arguably one of the most in-demand sidemen in New York City. The list is long; as a bassist, guitarist, or singer Tony has worked with: Bill Frisell Trio, Sexmob, John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, Willie Nelson, Rickie Lee Jones, Ani DiFranco, Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene), Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Jesse Harris, Richard Julian, Sasha Dobson, Shawn Colvin, The Abrams Brothers, Kevin Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), and Teddy Thompson to name a few. He still tours, records, and plays around town regularly with a very broad range of artists, and has played on many albums, movie and television scores. In the 1990's, Tony built his own 8 track analog studio where he has recorded and played on numerous albums

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 For our final installment in the Snarky Guitars series, All About Jazz spoke with Chris McQueen. Bill Frisell Harmony Quartet Rassegna Transiti Teatro Sanbapolis Trento 24.10.2019 Togliere anziché aggiungere, e in questo processo mirare all'essenza. Molti, nel campo della musica e dell'arte in generale, hanno affermato questo principio e perseguito tale idea. Non facile: bisogna sapere bene dove si vuole arrivare, cosa sfrondare, perché. Nella ...

Alicia Hall Moran: Here Today

Read "Here Today" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi
