Roy Hargrove: Two Views as a Sideman, With Jimmy Cobb and Anke Helfrich

Read "Roy Hargrove: Two Views as a Sideman, With Jimmy Cobb and Anke Helfrich" reviewed by Ken Dryden

Roy Hargrove has been one of the most active jazz musicians of his generation, appearing on numerous record dates as a sideman each year in addition to leading his own CDs. The trumpeter/flugelhornist recently appeared with veteran drummer Jimmy Cobb's quartet, along with a 2005 disc by German pianist Anke Helfrich, with sterling results.

The RH Factor: Distractions

Read "Distractions" reviewed by Chris M. Slawecki

A straight-up hard bop player of often stunning ability, Roy Hargrove (RH) needs to play more than straight-up hard bop, and sometimes he embarks on outside projects like The RH Factor for explorations beyond the jazz repertoire. Roy Hargrove Quintet: Live at the Village Vanguard

Read "Roy Hargrove Quintet: Live at the Village Vanguard" reviewed by David Adler

To commemorate its 65th year in existence, the Village Vanguard chose a major draw ' a young trumpeter who, along with Wynton Marsalis, has done much to rekindle popular interest in jazz over the last ten years. Roy Hargrove and his band are the “men at work" who graced the cover of the May 1999 Downbeat. ...

Roy Hargrove Quintet in Seattle

Read "Roy Hargrove Quintet in Seattle" reviewed by Christopher Jones

If you like flashy solos and the 'head-solo-solo-solo-head' school of group jazz, you'll like the Roy Hargrove Quintet. If you're looking for something else in your jazz, you might need to look elsewhere. This is not a criticism of Hargrove's quintet, which is currently in the midst of a five-day run at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in ...
