Brazilian jazz pianist Ricardo Bacelar makes a “Live” statement with “Nothing Will Be As It Was” His “Live in Rio” album drops August 21 preceded by the single that aptly reflects our times Brazil is leading the world per capita in coronavirus cases making it unlikely that people will be cramming into a concert venue anytime soon to hear live music.

Then there is the recent unrest that erupted in response to civil injustices in the US that bodes to spark meaningful change around the world. These are the events that inspired contemporary jazz pianist Ricardo Bacelar to release a new version of the Milton Nascimento classic “Nothing Will Be As It Was (Nada Sera Como Antes)” as a single ahead of the release of his “Live in Rio (Ao Vivo No Rio)” album, which drops August 21 from Bacelar Productions. “‘Nothing Will Be As It Was’ summarizes the existential questions raised globally by the coronavirus pandemic. Add to it the civil injustice and unrest that has surfaced over the last couple of weeks with Black Lives Matter, which is an especially important movement. We’re talking about the subject here in Brazil, too. We have a lot of problems with racism here, but our people have not yet taken the streets to protest and have social demonstrations. The world is watching the United States and people are talking about these issues everywhere,” said Bacelar who produced the 11-song “Live in Rio” collection.

Alfredo Dias Gomes

Born: May 20, 1960

Alfredo Dias Gomes debuted as a drummer in Hermeto Pascoal's band. With the instrumentalist, he recorded the album "Cérebro magnético" and performed in important shows such as the II Jazz Festival of São Paulo/Montreux and the Rio Monterey Festival.

He was part of the first formation of the group Heroes of the Resistance, with which he recorded the albums "Heroes of the Resistance" and "Religio", recording in Los Angeles in the United States.

He was also part of Ivan Lins' band. He toured Brazil, Japan, the United States, England, France, Germany, Portugal and Italy, performing alongside saxophonist and keyboardist Larry Williams and singer Brenda Russell. With Ivan he recorded the albums "Amar assim" and "Ivan Lins 20 anos".

Nascido em 19/07/1948, em Copacabana, desde os 16 anos escolheu o baixo com seu instrumento. Quando, teve como professor de baixo acústico clássico, à época o “spalla” de contrabaixo do Theatro Municipal do Rio, o prof. Renato Sbragia. Isto, por recomendação do baixista Manuel Gusmão, após ter assistido uma apresentação do Copa Trio, liderado pelo pianista (Don)Salvador e o baterista Do Um Romão, acompanhando Wilson Simonal. Assim, na verdade estava buscando tocar o jazz e a bossa nova. Carol Saboya

It has always been a musical environment. Carol Saboya, the composer Antônio Adolfo's daughter, was raised surrounded by inspired chords, scribbled scores and songs being born: The art in its full creation process. When she was eight, she had her voice recorded for the first time along with Miéle for the compact disc A menina e a TV. When she was still a little girl, she took part as a vocalist in albums of Erasmo Carlos and Ângela Ro Ro. From Rio de Janeiro, 7-string guitarist Daniel Marques recently won the greatest award in his country, the 'Brazilian Grammy' known as the Prêmio da Música Brasileira (2010). “The Brazilian Award was for my last project called Frevo Diabo Orchestra. I created that band, produced the awarded CD and directed the band, also composing and making arrangements. My new project is like a microcosm of the orchestra."
