Chad Fowler / Matthew Shipp: Old Stories

by Mark Corroto
Call it kismet, karma, astral influence or just plain luck, but when two musicians instantaneously click upon meeting, magic happens. Indeed, that was the case with the coming together of saxophonist Chad Fowler and pianist Matthew Shipp. The New York-based Shipp is ,of course, well known to adventurous listeners from his solo and trio recordings, plus ...
Joel Futterman & Steve Hirsh: Warp & Weft

by Mark Corroto
Neuroscientists, psychologists, philosophers, and modern Buddhist practitioners have all grappled with the concept of consciousness. On one hand, the science-oriented folk propose consciousness to be stuff that designates the 'me' inside a person vis-à-vis the world, whereas the more spiritual approach eschews a dualistic definition in favor of a universal or 'one' consciousness. If we take ...

Ma nessun singolo lavoro, fino a questo momento, aveva focalizzato l'attenzione su un ventaglio di ispirazioni così ampio e completo come si fa ora nei dieci CD del ...

Kidd Jordan

Born:
Internationally acclaimed, saxophonist, legend, Sir Edward “Kidd” Jordan was one of the true master improvisers. Born May 5, 1935 in Crowley, Louisiana, according to Indie Jazz, Jordan is, “probably, the single most under documented jazz musician of his generation, though…one of the busiest in the world.” A multi-reedist, he plays the baritone, soprano, C-melody and sopranino saxophones, as well as the contrabass and bass clarinet. For more than fifty years he has shared his gifts and passion for music. An educator, after thirty-four years, in 2006 Jordan retired as the chairman of the jazz studies program at Southern University in New Orleans (SUNO). Notably, he continues to serve as the artistic director of the Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp since its 1995 inception.
