Phillip Golub: Partisan Ship

Read "Partisan Ship" reviewed by Mike Jurkovic

In a lot off ways, it is a game of catch-up listening to Brooklyn pianist/improvisor/composer Phillip Golub once he kick-starts the oddly titled Partisan Ship into high gear with “Loyalty Oath," a piece of mad musical fiction that holds attention in place with its octopi rhythms and runaway melodies rushing in all at once.

Brandon Seabrook's Hellbent Daydream arrives as a bold, surreal dispatch from the mind of one of New York's most restlessly inventive guitarists and banjoists. Long known for fusing punk rock energy, jazz improvisation, pop sensibilities and metal intensity, Seabrook assembles a striking drummer-less quartet here: Elias Stemeseder on piano and synthesizers, Henry Fraser on bass and ...

Jazz em Agosto Gulbenkian Foundation Lisbon, Portugal August 1-10, 2025 Despite the “onda de calor" which hit it, Lisbon remains as peaceful as ever in its saturnine routine--even though invasive tourism in the Baixa neighborhood has already changed its appearance, and not for the better.
