Two-time President of the International Society of Bassists, Hans Sturm has taught and toured on six continents as a symphonic, jazz, and chambermusician. He has contributed performances and compositions to over fifty jazz and chamber music recordings including releases on Blue Note, Music & Arts,Cadence, Innova, CRI, and Red Mark. He is also an award-winning producer forthe pedagogical DVDs The Art of the Bow and The Art of the Left Hand with François Rabbath.
He has served on the juries of numerous national and international solo, jazz, and composition competitions including competitions organized by the International Society of Bassists and the American String Teacher's Association

Jonathan Drechsler is an experienced, versatile bassist with decades of experience playing jazz, blues, swing, Hawaiian, Latin (salsa, merengue, samba, bossa,cumbia, bolero, ranchero, etc.) and many other forms & styles. Originally from New York City, he studied under John Lewis, Charlie Palmieri, Don Heckman, Ed Summerlin and others at the City College of New York, and privately under Richard Davis. He was ubiquitous on the Greenwich Village blues, folk and jazz scene scene until moving West to Oregon in 1980. There he worked with Paul Delay, Curtis Salgado, NuShooz and the Esquires, as well as backing Robert Cray, Ted Curson, Joe Albany, Tom Grant, Sonny King, Nancy King, Rebecca Kilgore & others in performances all over the Pacific Northwest. Now living in Hawaii, he works & records with The Hula Honeys. He has also performed and/or recorded with George Kahumoku, Henry Allen, Owana Salazar and numerous other well-known Hawaiian & jazz artists.

Nathan began playing music at the age of five through the Suzuki cello program. Through grade school and middle school he also began to play the euphonium, tuba, and the string bass. Nathan eventually decided to focus on the string bass and his love for jazz music in college. He attended Michigan State University and studied jazz bass with world famous bassist Rodney Whitaker and classical bass with renowned bassist Jack Budrow (BA in jazz studies obtained 2009). Nathan attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University as a graduate assistant in jazz studies under the direction of Ronald Carter (MM obtained 2011)

Noriko Ueda
Originally from Hyogo, Japan, Noriko Ueda began studying piano at age four and electric bass at sixteen, later switching to acoustic bass to pursue her passion for jazz. She studied jazz composition at Berklee College of Music and after graduating, moved to New York City where she built her career as a performer, composer and arranger. Ueda tours internationally with the supergroup Artemis, which was named “Jazz Group of the Year” by the Downbeat Readers Poll for three consecutive years (2023–2025). Their third album, Arboresque (Blue Note Records, 2025) topped the JazzWeek national radio chart for five consecutive weeks and the band was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts

Kuriko Tsugawa (Bassist, Composer) Born in Tokyo (Japan) Kuriko Tsugawa started playing bass at the age of fifteen. Soon after she joined what would become her first jazz ensemble experience, the Tomisato High School big band, affectionately known as “The Mad Hatters”. As a member of “The Mad Hatters”, she had the opportunity to perform at major festivals throughout Japan. Recognition was waiting around the corner, and it was in 1999 that she and her bandmates won the first prize from the Student Jazz Festival that is held every year by Japan Association For Jazz Education. For three consecutive years Kuriko’s “Mad Hatters” shared bill with visiting artist Monterey High School Big Band in an annual festival held in Tomisato, Japan
