A Palestinian Nay Master, Global Jazz Flutist and Composer. Faris is known to his mastery of the ancient flutes “Nay”. In today's modern musical landscape he is on a mission to unlock its maximum potential. While facing stigma often associated with its perceived limitations, he's been able to defy such expectations, performing in demanding idioms such as jazz and other world music traditions. Pushing the boundaries of his instrument, he performed with numerous world-class jazz musicians such as Danilo Perez and George Garzone. In 2018, Faris graduated from the “Global Jazz” Master program at Berklee College of Music, where he was given the "Matt Marvuglio" award for his remarkable achievements in elevating Nay Performance and incorporating Arabic music into Jazz
Tarik Hassan's original music is mix of his experiences and influences. The first generation American son of an Irish mother and Palestinian father, he is able to draw on the music of these cultures as well as the musical traditions of America to create music that has a truly unique sound. He currently resides in Austin, Tx. Originally from Jacksonville, FL he spent the better part of a decade living and working in New Orleans, LA. It was in New Orleans that he honed in on his unique sound while studying the music of current jazz masters and those of previous generations. Some of the great artists that Tarik has performed with include Jason Marsalis, Andre Hayward, Bruce Saunders, Irvin Mayfield, Ed Petersen, Steve Masakowski, Johnny Vidacovich, Marlon Jordan, Delfeayo Marsalis, Brian Seegar, Troy Davis, David Torkanowsky, Tony Degradi, and many other fine musicians
