Nils Petter Molvær: Switch

A tre anni dal precedente Baboon Moon, ecco ripresentarsi il cinquantatreenne trombettista norvegese con uno dei suoi album certamente più interessanti e riusciti. L'avvio sembra ripercorrere in verità stilemi già ampiamente noti, di una fascinosa staticità, ma fin dal secondo brano, "The Kit," qualcosa muta. La ritmica si fa più viva, pulsante, a squadernare un ventaglio espressivo che da qui in poi pare felicemente superare ciò che da sempre rappresenta un po' l'impasse della musica di Nils Petter Molvaer: l'eccessiva omogeneità, la reiterazione, la ripetitività.

Così, dopo il breve "Intrusion I," ecco il più ampio, pacato, a tratti scuro, quasi spettrale, "Quiet Corners," mentre più prossimo a "The Kit," quindi vitalistico, risulta "Strange Pillows," e via discorrendo. Ovunque il modo in cui la tromba stende le proprie larghe volute—slabbrate, flautate, incruente per eccellenza—sopra il tappeto (non di rado capace però di assumere un ruolo più dialettico del solito) srotolato dagli altri strumenti genera una souplesse preziosa e quasi olimpica, anche nei casi in cui (tipo "Bathroom") il mondo (sonoro) sottostante brulica e s'inerpica.

Alla fine si ha come l'impressione che questo universo così monolitico, sferico, sposi (e quindi giustifichi) persino qualche dubbio, e noi con lui: di poter pensare (sperare?), per capirci, che il futuro possa riservarci magari anche qualche piccola sorpresa. O grande, chissà?
