Dave Wilson: Spiral
Con una ritmica così fare un disco deve essere un sogno. Già il brano di apertura è un piccolo manifesto di interplay, e l'assolo di Phil Markowitz è di una categoria a sè stante per eleganza e virtuosismo. Dave Wilson si trova subito a suo agio con alle spalle un trio di tale levatura.

Tre composizioni provengono dal mondo del rock: "Friend of the Devil" dei Grateful Dead, "My Own Prison" dei Creed e il finale "(You're the) Biggest Part of Me" di Ambrosia. Insieme a "Elm," un classico di Richie Beirach da un disco in trio con George Mraz e Jack DeJohnette purtroppo non più ristampato dalla ECM e "Francisca" di Tonino Horta più le composizioni del leader formano insieme un disco suonato alla grande da musicisti di altissimo livello ma che soffre in fase di produzione ed editing, con il leader, che passa tranquillamente dalla sonorità alla Coltrane ad atmosfere più cool ad altre da sassofonista di gruppi di rock.
